Transition to
Semi-Independent Living
Semi-Independent Living
Kids Out West provides tailored Supported Independent Living (SIL) services designed to support young people transitioning from out-of-home care toward greater independence. Our goal is to empower each young person to develop the practical skills and confidence necessary for semi-independent living while fostering their sense of self-worth and autonomy.
Our experienced and trained Therapeutic Youth Workers work closely with each young person, forming consistent, trusting relationships that provide a foundation for growth. Staff are carefully matched to individual young people based on personality and support needs to promote rapport and positive engagement.
Through one-on-one support, we assist young people in building essential life skills such as budgeting, meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, home maintenance, time management, and navigating community services. We also focus on developing skills in managing health, personal wellbeing, and social relationships to support holistic independence.
Workers operate within a trauma-informed, strengths-based framework, recognising the complex backgrounds and unique challenges young people face as they leave care. We provide flexible, practical assistance that is responsive to each young person’s pace, goals, and evolving needs.
This support is provided within a safe, structured environment, helping young people to build confidence, resilience, and decision-making skills necessary to successfully transition into adulthood.
